To save the hopeless Dark Fantasy World, I held back my tears and destroyed the world, then killed the Demon King and returned.
Now, I’m trying to save the world using the “System” I gained as a “Regressor’s Privilege”… But the Main Heroines have also awakened their own memories of the previous timeline.
God damn it.

The issue, as it turns out, lies in the narrative approach. The story is told from the first-person perspective, allowing readers to intimately experience the protagonist's thoughts and actions. This works well in showing his internal struggles, but it also creates a disconnect. When he describes performing good deeds secretly, it feels contradictory. It's almost as if he's subtly boasting about his hidden acts of kindness, which undermines the genuine goodness he tries to portray. It's not overt boasting, more like sharing a small triumph, like cleaning up trash on the way to school – admirable, but not something you typically boast about.
Given the premise of the novel, where the main character wants to remain anonymous, this self-revealing tendency becomes ironic. While the dynamics are intriguing, they detract from my reading experience. In conclusion, the first-person point of view doesn't quite suit this character, especially when he genuinely aims to do good without recognition.
Though I once suggested an alternative Chinese (CN) version, 'Despite Being Pursued As a Villain, All The Heroines On My Side?', their narratives actually contrast each other in interesting ways. The CN novel lacks the heroic pretense and is told from a third-person perspective, which I find more fitting. Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend that specific title here, but it's worth exploring if you're interested in a different take on the same premise.
Overall, it might be a bit excessive for some tastes, and personally, I find it difficult to proceed. I understand that others might enjoy it though.
I must admit, the plot is what kept me engaged. The author has a clear narrative structure and well-thought-out events. The tension is well-built, and the stakes escalate gradually, which sets it apart from other works. As the reviewer pointed out, the book has received accolades and high ratings, which are its strengths.
However, being a cynical individual, I tend to focus on the flaws. The excessive reliance on sympathy求可怜的手段 is what stands out. The main character's "punishments" – excessive blood vomiting, shortened lifespan, and emotional manipulation – seem to be a recurring theme. It's hard not to wonder if these elements are overused.
The portrayal of the female characters is another issue. A large portion of the story revolves around them plotting against the protagonist, discovering his goodness, feeling guilty, wanting to help, then feeling helpless, reflecting on past lives, and feeling even more powerless. It becomes repetitive and melodramatic. The supposed romance is based on guilt and helplessness, with the heroines primarily reacting with tears, which takes away from any genuine connection.
In conclusion, if you enjoy a heavy dose of "guilt and longing," or can overlook the constant emotional turmoil, this novel might still appeal to you. But for those who prefer a more balanced narrative, it might not be the best fit.
While Frey is undoubtedly the star, the supporting cast and especially the female main character (FMC), Serena, are equally well-developed. Her backstory is intricately designed, seamlessly intertwining with Frey's own story. The novel caters to the desire for a tragic hero who constantly endures hardships, which resonates deeply with me.
The translation is exceptional, although the updates might be slow; don't let that deter you, as it's a pace that allows for deeper appreciation of the narrative. Give it a chance – you won't be disappointed.
However, the most significant flaw lies in Chapter 18, which is the latest translated chapter as of my review. Initially, there was something that irked me, but after reading that particular chapter, the issue became clearer. The main character behaves like a chameleon, except instead of altering his appearance, he shifts his personality randomly based on the author's whim. This constant personality change happens multiple times within a single chapter.
If character development is a priority for you, it would be best to skip this novel.
